The World Padel Tour (WPT) is the professional circuit where the best padel players on the planet compete. Most of the events—more than 70%—are held in Spain, but it also features international tournaments: Dubai, Argentina, Monaco, and Portugal were some of the countries that hosted tournaments in 2015. The circuit grows year after year with new venues, more championships, larger prize budgets, etc. Last season, a total of 20 tournaments were held, both national and international. The calendar concludes with the Master Final in Madrid with the top 16 players in the ranking. The WPT currently has three Brazilian players among the top 40 in the ranking. In 38th place is Francisco 'Chico' Gomes. A left-handed player who plays in the drive position and is primarily known for his defense. His defensive style is spectacular, which is why he is one of the most followed players on the circuit. Last season, he competed alongside Galician player Pablo Lijó, a young player with a lot of experience and a bright future ahead. Chico Gomes reached the number 8 spot in the ranking and began his professional career in 2006 when he arrived in Spain to compete in the WPT. For 2016, he has changed partners and will team up with Argentine Cristian Ozán, a player with extensive experience in his home country who has shared the court with Mariano Lasaigues. They were the undisputed number 1 in their country, having won 10 out of the 17 tournaments they played. Ozán has already played in the WPT Argentina tournament, starting from the qualifying phase and entering the main draw, defeating the pair formed by Jaime Bergareche and Juan Lebrón. Both players are very excited about this new project, as Ozán will debut for the first time in the full WPT circuit, and confidence is high in achieving the goals they have both set for 2016.
