We all know that there are certain sports that can only be played in summer. Or vice versa, some that can only be played in winter, as the
weather is fundamental for outdoor sports. For example, skiing is only possible if there is snow.
We are fortunate to have chosen a sport that can be practiced all year round throughout our country, but with the proliferation of indoor clubs and courts, we can ensure that we can play 365 days a year.
Today we want to give you a series of
tips to help us play our favorite sport in winter without any risk. The first thing we must keep in mind is that at this time of year the ambient temperature is lower, so
the body takes longer to warm up. This is why
it is essential to do a proper warm-up before starting our matches.
This lower ambient temperature will also make us tend to bundle up. But we must
avoid wearing too much clothing, as it will make it harder for us to move around. We should warm up through the aforementioned warm-up and activity. If we wear too much clothing, our movements may be less effective or even clumsy, which can lead to discomfort or injury. In addition, with too much clothing, the technical gesture will vary, which means we will play worse and make more mistakes.
You have to be very careful with movements when the court is damp or even has a little frost. We must
tread more firmly and try as much as possible to reach the ball by sliding. Another important factor in winter is the type of ball to use, since
with lower temperatures the air is denser and the ball will run much less. In these conditions, we will opt for a slightly faster ball so as not to make the game too slow and heavy.
We must also be very careful with hydration. In winter, when we sweat less, we will feel less thirsty. But
we must always take care of our hydration before, during and after the match.
And finally, as soon as our match ends, we must
take off our sweaty clothes before we start to cool down and do our stretches. And if possible, take a good shower and put on dry clothes and other warm clothes since we will not continue exercising.
Last but not least, as always, the obligatory visit to the club canteen for a good refreshment.
