Speed training for padel
Padel speed training
Many people ask us how to gain speed in padel. When we reach a medium-high level, we start to notice that the game becomes more physical, and as we encounter better opponents, it becomes even more physical. Optimal physical condition is essential if we want to face players of a certain level.
How can we get that extra burst of speed in our game? Let's discuss several options to achieve our goal:
- Maintain a balanced weight:
If we are not currently at our correct weight, it is highly advisable to try and lose those few extra pounds. Our body will thank us, as will our speed on the court. We recommend approximately 30-40 minutes of continuous running every other day for several weeks. This, along with a balanced diet, will help us gain that extra speed we are looking for.
- Strengthen the lower body:
It is very important to have well-developed leg muscles if we want to have good speed on the court. Well-trained legs will be very helpful for our speed, as most movements we make in padel are explosive movements. These movements can be accelerated if we have strong quadriceps and strong calves. We recommend several exercises for these specific areas: if we want to strengthen our quadriceps, we should do series of squats, with and without weight if possible. For our calves, we recommend short sprints of approximately 10-15 meters and recovering for 20 seconds. We can repeat this in 3 sets of 10 repetitions.
