The importance of hydration in padel in high temperatures
In these days of intense heat, it is crucial to stay hydrated during padel training and matches.
Water is a vital resource for human beings, and one detail to know is that with heat and activity, the human body's temperature rises, and the way to regulate it is through sweat, which cools the skin, blood, and the inside of the body.
When the body becomes dehydrated, it begins to function incorrectly, and it becomes difficult to perform activities, which results in low performance.
The way to know if we are hydrated is not to feel thirsty at any time, since the body uses that mechanism when it has already lost 3% of body weight, and then it is considered that a dehydration process has already been reached that is not advisable, so once thirst is quenched, it would be advisable to drink a little more water to know that we are above the level.
The role that water plays is of utmost importance, as it transports glucose, oxygen, and fats to the muscles that are being exercised.
Waste metabolites are eliminated through urine, which is a great help in keeping the body healthy and free from contamination.
Children and older people do not have the mechanism that the body uses to tell them they are thirsty and should drink water, which means they can be dehydrated and not realize it until they go into dehydration shock, so special care must be taken with them in times of intense heat.
It should also be taken into consideration that with heat and the consequent increase in sweating, not only water is lost, but also mineral salts, which result in less efficient body function. To prevent this, it is advisable to drink infusions, juices, and isotonic drinks in addition to water.
A good diet with fruits and vegetables is also important to keep the body functioning optimally, as the nutrient intake is much better.
How to know when a person shows symptoms of heat stroke:
- Low physical performance is one of the first symptoms.
- Weakness, we feel tired and unwilling to move.
- Cramps, headaches, and even vomiting.
In the presence of any of these symptoms, it is very, very important to drink water. As soon as the first symptoms like weakness and tiredness begin to be felt, it must be understood that on very hot days we can encounter this problem and we must not let it progress.
