The World Padel Tour (WPT) kicked off on March 31st with the Gijón Open. The best players in the world gathered in Asturias. Nobody missed the first scoring event of the year, where Fernando Belasteguín and Pablo Lima – winners of 11 out of 12 tournaments played last year – once again established themselves as the undisputed number 1s, achieving the final victory. In 2016, many pair changes have occurred, even among the top 20 players in the WPT ranking. At Street Padel, we wanted to compile the ten best pairs currently:
  • Fernando Belasteguín-Pablo Lima: the Argentine and the Brazilian will once again be the pair to beat for everyone. Undisputed number 1s, in Gijón they once again demonstrated why. The rest of the players will have to work hard to defeat them.
  • Matías Díaz-Maxi Sánchez: the two Argentines reached the final of the Gijón Open after beating Paquito Navarro and Sanyo Gutiérrez in the semi-final, snatching second place from them. Maxi-sanchez
  • Paquito Navarro-Daniel Gutiérrez: one of the pairs that will surely be much talked about this 2016 season. Young, with a lot of grit and overflowing with talent.
    • Juani Mieres-Miguel Lamperti: a somewhat peculiar pair as they are two players who until now played in the backhand position. Mieres has moved to play on the drive, as this way they will take advantage of Miguel Lamperti's powerful shot.
