Today we are going to talk about the 10 most common mistakes that
amateur padel players can make.
As is common in any sport, when a person starts playing padel with a racket, they usually make many mistakes, especially technical ones. Below we are going to list the ten most common mistakes of the
amateur padel player:
- The main problem for a player starting in our favorite sport is an incorrect grip. It is very common for a beginner to hold the racket too high on the handle and with a bad grip. The main grip we need to learn is the Continental Grip or, commonly known as, Hammer Grip.
- Another very common beginner's problem is hitting facing forward. All padel shots should be hit sideways.
- Another very typical mistake is waiting for the ball with the racket down. This error causes us to always hit the ball late, as we lose a lot of time raising the racket and positioning it to hit the ball. We always have to keep the racket up and ready for any ball we might receive.
- The next mistake is often made during the serve, we are talking about hitting the ball too low. This serve creates a very large parabola and bounces too much. The serve should always be made at waist height, making the ball always go from top to bottom.
- The next mistake is hitting with a rigid body. The legs must always be semi-flexed, causing us to hit the ball at waist height.
- Another common mistake is to hit the ball too far forward or too far back, causing us to lose exhaustive control of the ball. The ball should always be hit at torso height.
- The amateur padel player usually has a poor ball toss on the serve. They tend to toss it too far forward or too far back. This means they cannot direct the ball to the desired spot in the service box.
- Another very common mistake is to make a tennis-style backswing, too long. On a padel court, the dimensions are much smaller compared to a tennis court. Because of this, we have less reaction time, so we have to shorten the stroke considerably to allow enough time to react correctly and hit the ball in the best possible way.
- One of the last ones we highlight would be to hit the ball with the racket face at the same height as the handle. This is totally inappropriate, as the head of the racket should always be up to allow for maneuverability.
- Finally, there is the mistake of making a smash facing forward, which prevents hitting the ball correctly.
