World Padel Tour announced a few days ago the new features and changes for the 2015 season, which affect not only the prize money, amounting to almost one and a half million euros in total, but also the current competition system.

Two types of tournaments and the Challengers

According to the official World Padel Tour website, the professional circuit, in the men's category, will feature two tournament formats in 2015, in addition to the Challengers that will be held in coordination with nine regional federations:

• WPT Master Tournaments 2015
• WPT Open Tournaments 2015

The WPT Master Tournaments 2015

This year, World Padel Tour includes the Master tournament category. There will be 4 tournaments that padel lovers will enjoy, with more points and prizes for the ranking.

The draw will consist of 28 pairs, meaning that the top four in the ranking will not have to go through the first round and will enter directly into the round of 16.

In addition, the 3-set finals, which disappeared in 2013 with the implementation of 5-set finals, are being brought back. In this way, World Padel Tour returns to shorter finals where players will feel relief from physical exhaustion.

The WPT Open Tournaments 2015

This type of tournament, 11 in total, will not experience major changes compared to the last two years. The draw will consist of 32 pairs and, as in the case of the Masters, the finals will return to 3 sets.

New features in the scoring of Master events for the World Padel Tour ranking

While the Open tournaments do not experience scoring changes in 2015 (here you can see the WPT scoring method), the distribution of points for the Master tournaments presents significant new features and changes.

Changes in the World Padel Tour Master scoring

The main draw will consist of 28 pairs. The top four will not have to go through the first round, so they will directly enter the round of 16, as we mentioned earlier.

Points are distributed as follows:

• Champion: 15,000
• Finalist: 9,000
• Semifinalist: 5,400
• Quarter-final: 2,700
• Round of 16: 1,350
• Round of 32: 600
• Quarter-final Pre-qualifying: 300
• Round of 16 Pre-qualifying: 150
• Round of 16 Pre-Pre-qualifying: 112
• Round of 32 Pre-Pre-qualifying: 75
• Round of 64 Pre-Pre-qualifying: 38

In addition, padel players who qualify in the qualifying phase will receive an extra "bonus" of 250 points, which will be added to the score obtained in the main draw. On the other hand, those who qualify in the pre-qualifying phase will receive a lower "bonus" of 75 points. However, those who enter through a "lucky loser" will not receive a "bonus."

Unchanged scoring in WPT Open tournaments

This year 2015 does not present any changes in the scoring system for open tournaments. Draws of 32 pairs, with the difference, however, that the finals will be 3 sets.

The points for Open tournaments will be distributed, as in 2014, as follows:

· Champion Round: 10,000 points

· Final: 6,000

· Semifinal: 3,600

· Quarter-final: 1,800

· Round of 16: 900

· Round of 32: 400

· Quarter-final Qualifying: 200

· Round of 16 Qualifying: 100

· Round of 16 Pre-Qualifying: 75

· Round of 32 Pre-Qualifying: 50

· Round of 64 Pre-Qualifying: 25

· Round of 128 Pre-Qualifying: 13

The bonus will be 250 points for players who qualify in the preliminary round and 50 points for those who do so in the pre-preliminary round.

Meanwhile, the Estrella Damm Masters Finals will not have changes in the classification system. That is, the top 16 male players in the ranking and the 12 best female players with the same system.

The definitive 2015 calendar has not yet been revealed, but the season, with these interesting new features, promises new venues and pairings.
