Chico Gomes: "The Orygen Epic has a sound that I love."

Chico Gomes is one of the most popular players on the World Padel Tour. Due to his charisma, talent, and grit, he is a player who leaves a mark wherever he goes.
After a season start marked by the withdrawal of his partner Cristian Ozán, the Orygen Padel player is smiling again on the court. He acknowledges this in an interview published by his own brand, where he assures that he hopes to continue fighting on the court "for at least five more years."
"I am 35 years old and I see myself playing until I'm 40. There are players on the circuit who are 41 or 42 years old and maintain a great level. Of course, it gets harder each time because many young players are coming up strong from behind," he points out.
In this last third of the season, he has important challenges marked. One will be the World Padel Championship in Portugal, where he will go with the Brazilian national team. "For me, it's a very important tournament. Playing the World Championship with Brazil will be good for me to continue regaining confidence in my game," he says.

He hoped to regain his confidence in the Seville Open. In the Andalusian capital, he played with Javi Garrido, a 16-year-old who is coming up strong. They were on the verge of reaching the main draw. They lost the last qualifying match, but the experience was, as he admits, "unbeatable."
"I didn't know Javi very well, but he surprised me for the better. It was a pleasant surprise. I went to Seville with the idea of competing, and I wouldn't have imagined that we could win three matches, being on the verge of the main draw. We lost the last one, but we were there. It made me very happy to play with a kid like him," he adds. "I left Seville very happy because I enjoyed playing on the court again. The experience was fantastic for me."
His next challenges are clear. "The short-term goal now is to enter the main draws and then try to play well. We will face each tournament without much pressure, with the idea of recovering good sensations and feeling good on the court. For me, that is the main thing: to finish the year well to face the next one optimistically."
In the La Coruña Open and the WPT tournaments in Argentina, he will play alongside Pincho Fernández (Wingpadel). A player he knows well. "I know him well, and for me, it's a motivation to play with him. We are two 'warriors' on the court, and we won't lack attitude in each match," he adds.

Chico Gomes signed at the beginning of the season with the brand Orygen. A company that joined the international scene with a very clear objective: to offer high-end padel rackets. Gomes plays with the Orygen Epic.
"It's a racket that gives me very good sensations. In La Coruña, I'll use it again. It's a racket that gives me a lot of confidence when blocking, hitting from the back of the court... I feel the ball very well with it. And particularly, it has a special sound that I love."
