padel-en-la-nieve-spTips for playing padel in cold weather

Given the time of year we are in and the number of questions we have received regarding this topic, we feel obliged to help with several tips. So that all of us who play this fun sport can continue to do so with minimal inconvenience.

  • Take the static warm-up before the match more seriously (from lower to higher intensity, joint mobility, jogging, and stretching). Entering the court with your body too sluggish will cause problems and prevent you from performing technical movements with ease, as your body temperature needs to rise to improve inter and intramuscular coordination. This way, possible tears and micro-ruptures can be avoided.

  • Regarding the apparel to wear in matches at low temperatures, we must indicate that depending on the intensity we are going to play, we must try to maintain a stable body temperature, so as to avoid sudden changes and falling ill or injured (use sweatshirts during the first games, long pants if necessary, etc.). At the same time, we must also take into account that the surface may be slightly more slippery, so good footwear with an Omni sole is recommended.

  • As for the equipment to use, if we can open a new can of balls, all the better, as the bounce of used ones is notably reduced. Regarding the rackets, those that are very soft will be slower, giving the sensation that the ball is more "trapped" and does not rebound. Therefore, it is preferable to play with medium-hard feel rackets and the newest light balls possible, thus we will have better conditions and our game will be less conditioned by low temperatures.

  • Another point to take into account when playing is the possibility of finding wet glass, so the balls will slide and not grip on contact with the methacrylate. Due to this, certain arrangements and changes in the way of playing will have to be made. Returns, with the racket stuck at 90 degrees to the side glass, as it will be very difficult to assess how much it will slide and how much it will bounce off. For long balls, you will have to crouch down and stick to the back glass since the ball will most likely drop if it is at a reduced speed. And finally, try to avoid the back wall resource as they are much more difficult to control.

We hope this information is useful to you, and that you can continue to practice this sport during the cold months. Take care and enjoy. See you on the courts!!!
