Stupa and Cristian: Kings of the Mijas Open WPT

Few could have predicted a triumph for the pairing of Cristian Gutiérrez and Franco Stupaczuk at the Mijas Open World Padel Tour. Not even they themselves. "Honestly, I didn't think we would win a title so soon, but it's very welcome." These are the words of Cristian Gutiérrez himself, right after the tournament ended and after defeating Maxi Sánchez and Matías Díaz in the final (5-7, 6-4 and 6-4) after more than three hours of play.

But the truth is that Cristian and Stupa deserved the victory more than anyone. Not only that, in the semifinals they decisively defeated Mieres-Lamperti (6-1 and 6-2). And in the final, they seized their opportunity to take down a tough pair, the number 3 on the circuit.

The Mijas tournament marks the first victory for the Cristian-Stupa duo. They started the year without much confidence, but little by little, they have been adapting to each other, and in Mijas, they showed an extremely high level of play. This led to Franco Stupaczuk's first professional triumph at just 21 years old. And he did it while wielding his spectacular racket: the Nox Stupa Full Carbon Hybrid.

For Cristian, the victory also meant a lot. He hadn't won a World Padel Tour title in four years. The last one came on July 7, 2013, at the Santander Open. Next to him, precisely, was his opponent in the Mijas final: Matías Díaz.

First title for Siux in WPT

With the Siux Pegasus racket, Cristian Gutiérrez also gave the brand Siux its first World Padel Tour victory in history. The genius from Mar del Plata joined the Spanish brand in 2016 and, after reaching two finals with Juan Martín Díaz, he has finally tasted the sweet taste of victory again, also demonstrating that Siux's signing of him was a complete success.

It should also be remembered that Fernando Belasteguín and Pablo Lima were not present in Mijas. The number 1 pair was forced to withdraw due to Bela's injury. An injury that will keep him off the courts for several weeks and whose return is uncertain.

Meanwhile, the number 2 pair, consisting of Paquito Navarro and Sanyo Gutiérrez, fell in the quarter-finals, which was the biggest upset of the championship. Galán-Belluati ousted Paquito and Sanyo from the title race, who were unable to take advantage of Bela-Lima's absence.
